Taking it a step further, Rand's semi-descent into madness in the middle books corresponded with the world seeming to go mad, bubbles of evil, nations in chaos, kings disapperaing, etc.

... but I've been thinking about this, and I suspect that not all the paranormal phenomena are of the same origin. The food spoilage is the land's sickness in response to the Dragon's lack of health, but the Bubbles of Evil are directly from Shai'tan, evil, foul, corrupt, twisted things that have frequently been targeted at the weaknesses and frailties of their victims.

And things like the shifting buildings or the Village in Shiota... those are not deliberately evil, I suspect they are the result of the Pattern fraying as the Seals get broken, the Bore gets reopened, and balefire getting used in greater quantities.

So there would be three separate causes for different supernatural phenomena - the Dragon Reborn, Shai'tan, and the Pattern.

The bubbles of evil drifted up the pattern and were drawn to the ta'veren (according to Moiraine - I personally think she's spot on). The bubbles of evil wre probably a bad parallel to draw here. I also completely agree that the sinking villages and Hiderstap have nothing to do with Rand's inner darkness. I'm just saying in a very broad view, the land does seem to jump from relative calm to turmoil at the same time Rand begins to hear LTT and starts making himself harder. I know there are reasons for everything that happens and most of it is in the prophecies, but again. Broad.

That particular line is the least important one in my original post IMO. I'm focused on connecting the darkness, the wounds, and the hand to the land. I don't necessarily think that this theory of mine will play out in the novels, but it's interesting to entertain.

Maybe the wounds indicate that they all need to work together. *NM* - 15/06/2010 02:28:25 AM 396 Views
