Gawyn might attack Rand and find himself dueling Galad?

Unless things go totally sour between Gawyn and Egwene, which is unlikely, then Gawyn won't ever betray his promise to Egwene by attacking Rand and he can't do anything to Rand before Egwene tells him she gives up trying to find evidence Rand didn't kill his mother

I think we are actually being set up for a confrontation (though not necessarily a duel) between Rand and Gawyn. I don't think it's a coincidence that the only information Rand got from Tam was that Morgase was alive and has abdicated. Couple that with both of them now being in the same place (Rand on Dragonmount, Gawyn in the Tal Valon area - note he was not near Egwene during the last scene of TGS), and the chance of a face to face meeting coming up is very high. Hopefully they will talk before attacking, and Gawyn won't take Rand by surprise: in a surprise encounter, Rand has no chance unless already holding the source - he can't defeat Gawyn with one hand, and his nausea means he can't grab the Power and use it on short notice.

I don't think Galad's presence is necessary to convince Gawyn - Rand has all the information, and access to witnesses, if needed. The only question is whether Gawyn will listen - hard to say, when dealing with a Taveren.

At this point, the odds Gawyn ever goes forward with trying to kill Rand are extremely low. He had his chance in LOC, but he chose to abide by his promise to Egwene.

I disagree, I think we are set up for a face to face encounter (whether it comes to fighting or not). Gawyn had no such chance in LoC - Rand was holding the source when they met and Ashaman were all around them.
