safety/surity that they will fulfill their end of the bargain

I'm curious at to their interaction. Asmodean placed the false Car'a'carn (whatever) markings on Couladin.
I think that Couladin was furious at Rand's path to leading the Aiel and was desperate to find a way out. Asmodean entered his tent, and possibly used saidin to restrain him. He then offered him a way out, and said that he could give him the marks. Couladin accepted, as he was more ambitious than fearful of a male channeler.
Some questions I have...
1. Do you think Couladin ever worked out that this was one of the Forsaken, or did Asmodean reveal his true identity?
2. Was Couladin a darkfriend, or did he perhaps embrace the Shadow in return for the gift?
3. Do you agree with my assessment of how Couladin and Asmodean interacted, or did it occur in another way? Was Sevanna involved, or even Lanfear?
Easier and probably more reliable too. Especially if he did something along the lines of what Moghendien did to Liandrin. Perhaps even made him believe the markings were real ... "All Couladin could see where the mans eyes, then he said "BELIEVE" Couladin knew he was in fact the Car'a'carn" ... even if Couladin knew he was a fraud it could have been a command as simple as "Oppose al'Thor" or "Rebel" ... you get the point.
IMO it's very likely that Lanfear was involved with setting this into motion, otherwise she would never have trusted Asmodean to follow-through with his side of the bargain.
I always wonder if Asmodean and Lanfear didn't have some kind of loose alliance in the AoL. It would suit them both, she'd like a powerful, but weak willed mantoy and he'd likely need the powerful ally to have survived.
Makes you wonder how many of the AoL FS were given new names. I've always thought it unlikely that every AS who turned got a new name... seems to me that only the top ones (perhaps the 29 that were allowed access to the TP) where ever so famous as to have names assigned to them by the general populace.
In this case, reasoning with Couladin would have the same results, without the harmful side effects of Compulsion. It's also quite possible that Lanfear was involved (take away Rand's support), or was at least aware of what Asmodean was doing. She wasn't about to allow him to make his own plans behind her back, and ratted him out the moment he tried to gain power for himself.
Asmodean probably made alliances with his superiors, since he doesn't seem to have the skill to keep himself safe around the other Forsaken, and doesn't have particular skills that make him invaluable (like Aginor). This wouldn't have to be Lanfear, but she would be a good choice.
It's also possible he kept his position by doing work no-one else would want to.
Which Forsaken were given new names? It seems to be the ones who were reviled or feared: the most powerful, the ones with unique skills / methods.
Yes Couladin wanted to be the chief of chiefs, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have given up the moment it got too hard, or tried to double cross Asmodean. Given the personalities of the Frosaken they seem to expect a knife in the back. Much more likely IMO that he would have wanted the "insurance" Compulsion gave him.
Domani Drag Queen in the White Tower ... Aran'gar watch out!

seems far more likely that Asmodean just laid some Compulsion on Couladin

I hate the Shaido far more than Perrins reaction to their kidnapping of Faile.
