Re: Galad's relationship with Rand, Gawyn, and how it might be used later in plot - Edit 1

Galad forced to choose between Rand and Gawyn's life's and killing Gawyn would be a win-win all round for good scenes, killing off the most annoying male character in the series (Faile wins the female and overall title) AND Egwene being pissed at Rand. It'd be ironic if Rand knowing the Amrylin's anger has nothing to do with Aes Sedai, Asha'man, how he's ruled the lands.
Of course the greatest weakness (IMO) of Wheel of Time is for major characters, the happily ever after effect, so Gawyn and Galad won't fight over Rand. In fact Rand and Gawyn will be buddy-buddy at some point in the last two books.
Sure the Amayar may all die, 20000 red shirts, oops, I mean Maidens, but since about book 4 who has seriously been worried a (semi-)major character is going to bite the dust? A few may in AMOL, but that's not the same as fearing all the way through as you do reading ASoIaF (which isn't as good as WOT, but much better in that regard).
