How many Damane are actually out there?

RJ said between 1-2% of the population had the ability. There's what 20M Seanchan? That's about 150k women with the ability. RJ also claimed that there is a much smaller portion of "sparkers" ... so what 25% of the total? That makes about 37.5k damane and 112.5k sul'dam? Seems like an excessively high number of damane. if they had that many they would have crushed even Rand and the Asha'man in no time ... perhaps it's more like 12% are sparkers, meaning 18k damane and 132k sul'dam? That seems to be a little more realistic since there have been battles with several hundred damane on each side, with the Forerunners bringing a couple of thousand along with them...

Obviously there are huge flaws here since damane can live for hundreds of years which would make for more larger numbers, but there likely a ton of casualties from all the unification wars to even that out. I'm also totally guessing at the Seanchan population

I touched on this in one of my earlier messages in this thread.

I have no clue about proper numbers for population, but Mats imaginary friend had this to say earlier and he seemed to know what he was talking about:

I can only speculate about the food production levels of the Seanchan Empire, but given what seems to be a much higher level of organization and the greater stability that they enjoy, I would think that they could easily have been near the thresh-hold that any society would reach prior to
the industrial revolution. The Ming Empire in the mid 17th century had an estimated population of 150 million and that was pre-industrial revolution, so Seanchan could potentially be comparable in size.

So lets say 150 million people total over the entire continent.

Now lets see the RJ quote that he made about channeler numbers:

- For Papazen, while I have spoken of souls being born with the ability to channel in response to questions, I think of it as being genetic also. In the Age of Legends, between 2 and 3% of people had some ability, following a bell curve distribution in strength. For over 3000 years, though, Aes Sedai have been removing men who actually learned to channel from the gene pool. They have been very efficient at this. As a result, the “present day” sees about 1% of the population who can learn to channel, with a much, much smaller percentage of that being born with the spark.

Seems likely that the Seanchan with the damane not having children, male sparkers hunted down and killed, and the sul'dam likely not leading normal family lives, will all also result on culling the ability so the 1% is likely accurate for the Seanchan too.

RJ unfortunately does not clarify about sparkers. That could mean that something like 0.1% of the population have the spark. Or it could mean that say 1% of channelers(who are already rare to begin with) will also have the spark. Which would reduce numbers even further.

Even so, considering the long lifespan of the damane due to no oaths, the testing that will find everyone, and the fact that rebellions and the like will likely not have caused any significant loss in the damane numbers, the Seanchan likely have a LOT of channelers at their disposal.

Obviously however the Seanchan did not have traveling when they arrived, so they could not fill their ships to the brim with channelers, they could only bring a limited supply with them.

Ofcourse that has changed now. I mentioned in another message that Rand should actually be thanking Semirhage. If not for her killing the Empress&co and throwing the entire Seanchan into chaos and civil war, Tuon could likely have used traveling to summon virtually all the damane in Seanchan to support her and utterly crushed Rand, the Aes Sedai and pretty much everyone else with ease. That however will no longer work. Her authority back home has been destroyed and she has to rely on the numbers she already has.
