One that he can use to intercept Seanchan ships and deal with armies before they ever land. That's usually a powerful advantage even in the time of traveling(when most people can't use the power).
Traveling becomes less effective when we take into account that the Damane can't link and create large gateways, forcing the Seanchan to rely on their fleet for their transport and invasion needs. Seafolk ships will provide fast mobile platforms to repel that invasion, and the most experienced crews to work those ships.
Sure, Rand can wait until the Seanchan approach ports, but the resulting battle could be very dangerous to the surrounding cities, bringing lots of civilian casualties.

I wonder why Rand has not chosen to just destroy the Seanchan fleets. Seems to me that it would be simple enough to send a quick strikeforce of Asha'man straight to the harbor where the Seanchan ships are stored, destroy them with the power beyond repair and then flee before anyone realises what is happening.
I really don't see the need for the sea folk ships to be used to counter the Seanchan. Nor do I see the need for transportation either. Rand could easily have used the Asha'man to transport the food much more efficiently.
I suspect that for Rand at this point, the windfinders (or whatever the seafolk channelers are called) would be far more usefull than ships.
Are the Sea Folk important?
