At Theoryland a better scan of the ToM cover was posted in a thread [link below].
If Mat is actually the man in the middle (and not the man on the right), it seems as if he is wearing a red bandage around his head, which might extend over his left eye. We know from one of Egwene's Dreams that Mat will place his left eye on a balance scale. If this left eye is the connection to the Finn, it makes sense that Mat has to give it up/cut it out before he and the others enter the Tower of Ghenjei to avoid warning the Finn. This would explain the bandage.
Besides that, I wonder what exactly the staff is, which the man on the left (apparently Thom) has in his hands, because there seems to be something convoluted on its upper end. Do you think this is just supposed to be a walking-staff, or a quarterstaff or even a torch (e.g. to light fire to blind the Finn)? Might also almost look like some kind of serpent staff, e.g. the Rod of Asclepius..
Finally, it's a bit embarrassing that "The Gatering Storm" is mentioned as the prequel of ToM on the cover..

Still pretty b(l)a(n)d. I guess Noal Charin is on the right, standing at the door.
