Great film! I pretty much agree with most of what you said. While I wouldn't assess Cage's performances from the 90s as low as you do, I gotta say this may have been his best role to date.
Such a hilariously funny, touching (!), incredibly violent, deeply entertaining film. The best is that it is mocking the comic film stereotypes as much as it is celebrating them.
Like Zombieland last year: a mean little film that doesn't give a shit about expectations and stereotypes and is just having a good time.

I'm glad.
I actually saw it again when I was in London, and the second time around it was a completely different film. But it is still good.
