Apparently Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd have convinced AMC to give the first season of this show the go-ahead before they have even shot the pilot. They have gotten the go-ahead for six episodes which I assume will cover the first story-arc in the comics, Days Gone Bye. It starts shooting in June and it's hoped that it will air this October.
In casting news it's been announced that Jon Bernthal (recently of The Pacific) will play Shane (Rick's partner and friend) and it's heavily rumoured that Johnny Lee Miller is in advanced talks to play central character Rick Grimes.
