I largely agree with your comments - Rutger Hauer is excellent, and the final scene is pretty good. Though like everything in the movie, it has a strange sense of randomness to it, or at least that's what I thought... I guess Scott doesn't really take the viewer by the hand with as much explicit exposition and explanation as you get in most movies, and in so doing contributes to the general atmosphere of the movie. The many foreign language bits without any translation contribute to that effect, too. Leaves a lot of room for interpretation and for the viewer to decide for himself, which I imagine is the point.
