Now, I didn't get around to re-watch our second entry for Sci-Fi month, but here's a post that hopefully will kick off a little discussion anyway. Again, spoilers can be expected.

It's been a few years since I've seen the film and I remember that I was equally fascinated, bored and confused.
The movie was on TCM all the time back in the early 90s when I still received that channel. I saw bits and peaces sometimes, others were simply known after many years of pop culture references.
One day I decided to sit down and watch the whole thing, forced myself to make it through the ape sequence I always found so silly in the beginning.
The visual effects, camera work, editing, all were outstanding, undoubtedly. And once the two astronauts struggle for their life against HAL, things even got a little bit exciting. But then this colorful, trippy, weird ending. I never knew what to make of it. I still don't.
So I am mostly interested in hearing how you interpret the film and it's message, if there is one, especially concerning the ending. Why is this a classic, you think? Does it deserve to be?
I can admit to its technical brilliance, but it didn't reach me on a deeper level, personally.

Oh and call me blasphemous, but I actually saw the sequel "2010" even a few years earlier and was on the edge of my seat for two hours. I never forgot the last line. Take that, Stanley Kubrick

I'll leave up the Blade Runner thread for a little longer anyway, there were still some people watching, I think. We also can start thinking about what genre to pick for the second half of April, or I'll just decide
