...with a plane you either have a pilot or you don't. You just don't go and try it.
With a submarine you'd probably be more tempted to just try pushing a few buttons and maybe that even works for a while. But I've seen Das Boot too often and know that losing control, having water all around you and slowly sinking into the nothingness can't be nice :P
