SyFy hit on the idea that if they released the pilot a year before transmission, it would whet everyone's appetite for the show. It kind of worked in that CAPRICA's pilot got excellent reviews following BSG's disastrous conclusion, and actually made people more excited for CAPRICA than they would have been otherwise.
However, the pilot being freely available for a year also meant it was very easy to buy cheaply or torrent. As a result, CAPRICA's opening ratings were disastrous, and don't appear to have improved much in the meantime.
Based on this, HBO will likely have no interest in releasing GoT's pilot early, or if they do, it will be weeks or a couple of months early, not a full year.
