I think you missed the winky face conveying less than seriousness.

Nothing is original, of course it's not. Every book/play/movie/tv show/whatever falls into some kind of generic, previously established plot pattern. And that's not even a new thing, it's the basic nature of storytelling. About half of all Greek myths are the same story with different names involved. I find it extremely interesting, actually. The Hero with A Thousand Faces and all that.
No, unoriginality wasn't the reason I didn't like Avatar. I am totally fine with stories following tropes and having an archetypal characters. Avatar bored me because it didn't take that archetypal plot and do anything new or interesting with it. And no, setting it on Pandora and using giant blue people and 3D doesn't count in my opinion. The visuals was cool when I watched it, but it didn't stick with me. Avatar did not emotionally interest me at all, and that's why I didn't like it. I was bored. I was not more than cursorily interested in the characters or their plight. Avatar just didn't do it for me. I like movies with more emphasis on characters, and let's face it, the characters in Avatar were paper thin. Whatever, that's my opinion. I'm glad you liked it. Billions of people agree with you.

I'm not saying it's an Asian show. You're right, it's totally American.

That would be a great excuse if the lead villain in the movie weren't being played by an Indian.
