I'd guess he's not on the Island cause the Island isn't there...it was underwater in the premier

As for the "plane never crashes"-reality: Claire and Kate had a little contractions adventure there. Most shocking news: Dr. Ethan Goodspeed is going to deliver the baby.
and I didn't notice it until I saw it typed out in your post. I think I was so surprised to see Ethan that I didn't realize that Goodspeed is Horace's last name. I don't remember them having the same last name before... *heads to lostpedia*
I didn't recognize the last name, but we already knew Horace's wife gave birth to Ethan
I just don't get why he is not with Ben on the island at the time of the plane arriving in LA
