I also know enough about history to say that it is completely inaccurate. My contention is not that 300 is unenjoyable, but rather that it is of substantially lower quality and accuracy than ROME. Read my original post.
It was if his point was what you made it out to be (i.e. that the "source material" for 300 was the 300 comic book, which is patently obvious). Since I assumed that he was referring to the historical source material that is analogous to the source material of ROME, I didn't consider his point stupid. Just wrong.
They are for all extents and purposes the same thing.
And I don't like words like "stupid" very much when discussing films. Especially when his point wasn't.

My point, once again, was that your complaint should go out to the comic. You are basically shooting the messenger when you trash the film.
They are for all extents and purposes the same thing.

Rome and 300 really shouldn't ever be put in the same sentence.

You are mistaken. Both films/shows were close to their source material..

I am not mistaken. The assumption that the source material is correct is inane.

The source of 300 is the graphic novel, not history

And the graphic novels gets its source material/distorts its source material from where?

The question is what the film aimed to be

And, as I said, that places it in a much lower league of quality than ROME, which was very accurate. *NM*

You do realize that the Graphic Novel is a work of fiction, right?

300 is deliberately supposed to be non-historical, but this message got lost somewhere along the way

That was such a stupid potential argument that I gave him the benefit of the doubt and discarded it.

I'll watch it for the soft core porn value. Full frontal male nudity! The gays will love it.
