It's an excellent series, but please try to unwatch The Plan. It was the worst thing I've ever seen.

Seriously. I say that as a fan who loved the series through its various ups and downs in quality. The Plan was nothing more than a rehash and retcon of half the show. Terrible, terrible editing and writing. I can't believe Eddie Olmos was even involved in that, or perhaps it shows that he should stick to just acting.
While some of the politics brought the show down, they also caused interesting scenarios. There were times when the fleet made ridiculous decisions in the name of liberty, but every show has its issues. It seemed pretty silly to me, IMO, that they should even consider allowing abortions with the population of humanity taken down to <50,000. It also seemed forced, as I think it had more to do with the viewer's POV than anyone who would actually be on the ships. I feel that the show usually bent liberal in its political agendas, but I still enjoyed it as a pretty conservative viewer. (when it got preachy, it didn't last too long... with the possible exception of the Insurgency scenario in early season 3)
The soundtrack to this show still amazes me. The drums, the themes, the emotion, instrumentation. All top notch, every episode. It might be my favorite part of the series, honestly. While the quality of the show's plot may have waxed & waned in the last two seasons, the music simply kept improving.
While some of the characters could have been better, like half of Apollo's story arcs (and the the love triangle could've been skipped over), they were people you cared about. Sure, sure... Starbuck got pretty whiny at times, but they ultimately kept me caring. (Tigh especially) Baltar was a great asset to the show, despite a few of his arcs feeling completely out of nowhere. (season 4 religious theme)

The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.

It's better than the series finale.

It felt like 90% stock reroll with added nudity, lots of poor dialogue and a side of retcon. *NM*
