Americans in general do treat muslims in general like shit. it is a very unfortunate situation, IMO, since there are just as many whacko fundamentalists that are christian as there are muslims whacko fundies. But most of the violent acts that these christian fundies perform get buried in the news with little to no national coverage in most circumstances.
And few of our television shows try to do anything to rectify this situation. The one that I know makes the attempt on a fairly regular basis is NCIS, and the funny thing is, the character that seems the most understanding and accepting of the muslims is Ziva, the Jewish Mossad agent. Go figure!
