Now when I watch the other two shows, I keep cringing at how campy SG1 was (almost as bad IMO as Buffy got; and no, I don't hate Buffy, I loved Buffy). SG:Atlantis isn't as bad, but still, there was no really interesting characters on there other than Rodney, and the acting still wasn't like watching actors act, it was like watching actors pretend to act. No real emoting at all.

True, SGU is not like the other SG shows. It is a different animal.

I see it this way (just a comparison, not literal):

Stargate the movie = the original Batman comic book.
Stagate:SG-1 = the cheesy Adam West Batman TV show.
Stargate:Atlantis = Tim Burton's Batman movie.
Stargate:Universe = Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were NOT the same show, let alone style, of the other Batman franchises, but it is still Batman. Just like SGU is NOT the other SG shows, but it is still SG in nature. Just more grown up, and less kid friendly.

The characters are more real, the interactions are more real, everything comes across as more real.

That is why I like this one better than the others.

Not meaning to insult you Mighty YT, but your complaints about SGU sound like the complaints of the people who didn't like Moore/Eick's BSG and how they compared it to the original rubbish from the late 70s.
