Otherwise you are likely to get the same old shows and actors winning, or at least dominating nominations. A few lifetime achievement awards could work - best ever film/ TV show/ actor/ actress.
I don't see wrong with going into detail with the kind of examples you gave, makes sense to me to break up TV into more than one category of show as well. What matters with doing that is avoiding to many different awards so people get bored or there aren't enough options to vote for.
