Personal nitpicks/clues at the medical side of the show: since they diagnosed Addison's in patient Ned, they logically would now treat him, meaning he shouldn't turn black in the next 6 months. Clue to future-changeability or approximate understanding of medicine? (I unfortunately think it's the latter - although if this show is going to remain interesting I really hope the FFs are alterable)
Seeing as how the patient saw how happy he was in his flashforward, he very well could simply decide not to get treated for his condition.
