It's not the best adaptation I've ever seen, not by a long, long way (for the reasons zeeb mentions above - it's so unsubtle it's really quite cringe-worthy at times) but it is sweet, and they do make an effort. It's entertaining but I think they underestimated either the source material or the audience, I can't quite tell which, because it's too light-hearted and too silly and doesn't seem to make much internal sense. My sister is appalled by it.
I liked the Beckinsale version, but Jeremy Northam was the best Knightley.
