His only real flaw at the burning e is he loves and worships Gaston.as the story goes on his gets more uncomfortable with Gaston's actions, especially when he leaves Belles father for the wolves. The decision was probably PC but the result was a more likeable and believable character.

We're they trying to go back to the bank on the movie? How many big budget movies these aren't doing that or trying to cash in the latest popular YA book? People seem to forget that big budget movies are high risk high gain businesses projects not exercises in artistic expression.
