It is the movement in general to make bad ass females and the related affect of making weak males to play against them. The problem I have with Rey being to strong is it doesn't make sense for her to be this strong regardless of her gender. Rey had no training and was able to defeat trained Sith Lord while Luke still has his ass handed to him after being trained by Yoda. I don't believe that has anything to with gender but is Abram cool stuff pretty stuff ignore the rest film making style. He did the same thing when he decided Kirk needed to go from disgraced cadet to captain of the flag ship in one step.
Fair enough, this has actually been a complaint of mine. From a SW canon PoV it takes 10 years to master a lightsaber. I don't mind if Rey gave him a run for his money, but Finn? Anyway, Luke was hardly trained and he injured Vader in their duel in Empire, even if the rest of the duel was one-sided, so there's always that. Another major point is that Ren was severely injured. We saw that Chewie's bow could blow up five men, and Ren took one right in the side.
The only reason I'm not really upset about the whole Rey-Ren thing is that I think she might be a Force prodigy sent to balance the dark side, so I'm waiting before I pass judgment on this potential debacle. Her powers are thus unnaturally strong. Luke is the new Yoda and she will be the Light messiah. Remember that Sidious alone could blind the whole Jedi order. The Force occasionally balances both sides with single individuals. Ren is your regular Sith Apprentice. It's likely he will enable Rey to do something great at the end and not much more, but ultimately it's Rey vs Snoke in my opinion.
