Are Medical TV shows required to have a plot about a Dr's picture being on a poster? Cannoli Send a noteboard - 24/06/2015 12:11:27 AM

I don't watch a lot of medical shows, because I don't have a lot of natural empathy for sick people, or admiration for doctors. Yes, they save lives. That's what they're paid to do. Enough already. The only ones I actually watched were House MD and Scrubs, for the laughs in both cases. And I remember there were issues on both shows where one doctor on the show appeared on promotional posters for the hospital leading to at least one episode of squabbling or gloating or something. It was Taub & Kelso respectively, IIRC.

My sister did a bad thing, however, and gave my father access to her Netflix account, so when I came to give him a belated Father's Day gift (what? It's not my fault. I assume when I pay $13 for overnight shipping on June 17, I kind of assume I'll get my order on the 18th or 19th, not the 23rd. I got my shipping fee refunded, but that hardly makes up for the pain my dad might have suffered thinking his best kid didn't remember Father's Day), where was I? Oh, right. My father is now binge-watching Grey's Anatomy. When I entered the room, three of the characters were looking at a big poster for their hospital or whatever, with one of their faces on it.

I understand that some plots are going to get recycled. "Male lead and female lead having sexual tension" "character thought dead, isn't" "Cliffhanger where someone might have died" "Special wedding episode where the cast regulars are all bridesmaids and groomsmen, even if that makes no sense for their characters" "episode where characters are locked in a room with people with whom they would prefer not be confined" and so on.

But "doctors giving each other shit because one of them is on a hospital poster" is not something I would expect to see in three different TV shows. If it's that common, the law of averages strongly suggests it was also on ER, so probably four shows?
