I completely disagree - but maybe I'm not a typical Bond fan, if a fan at all.

View original postBond was an action-comedy series at all times, and it didn't take itself too seriously (though obviously too many fans were too stupid to realize that). Ever since they "rebooted" it in Casino Royale, they've tried to make it more serious, and it has turned into yet another idiotic series like the Bourne movies or Mission Impossible. I found the last one completely unwatchable and turned it off after an hour. Just let it die and come up with something new and original.
I thought Skyfall was the best Bond movie since Licence to Kill, another one of those movies hated by some who found it too serious. And some of the most "comic" ones, particularly those featuring Roger Moore, are imbecile to the point of being unwatchable - if we're talking giving up on movies halfway through, I had that with Diamonds Are Forever.
But yeah, as RT says, whatever direction they take the series in - and any direction will alienate some people while appealing to others - they won't let it die entirely, it's far too strong a brand for that.
Oops. I accidentally got involved in a discussion on whether James Bond could ever be black.

Meh. I would just view it as "something new." There have been a ton of Bonds.

The real question is why a tired franchise is squeezed for every last penny.

Might as well ask why the sky is blue.

And it's supposed to be stirred, not shaken. Every vodka drinker knows that. The piker. *NM*

Problem is, as I hear it, Austin Powers kind of ruined "spy comedy" for anyone else
