I am pretty sure the majority of kids born after the mid 90s enjoy the new trilogy more. From a storytelling POV it's really hard to say and I've been wondering about that, too. I'd probably start with the originals anyway, so the twist in TESB doesn't get ruined.

Well, we haven't seen all of the Hobbit trilogy yet but it's quite likely that it can be watched and enjoyed by younger kids than LOTR. Parts 2 and 3 will get darker, though.

I'll only show mine the two new ones, to be honest. Especially the Kirk ones did not age well at all. They're a great example of "You had to be there" but have little to no appeal from today's POV.
Well, maybe the Picard ones too, if they enjoy reruns of TNG on TV.
