Of course they have liberties because he doesn't show up for the entire book and gets tortured off screen but what we see now is still a little weird. I would have understood if Bolton's bastard cut him loose to have the satisfaction of catching him again. But killing a lot of his own men to do so? Or were they from someplace else? In that case they should have made that clearer.
