But is it just Fringe-like in the sense that there are weekly mysteries of some sort? Or do things eventually get interesting, the way they do in Fringe once the alternate universe is introduced?
Both. X-Files also had this mix of monster of the week-episodes and an overall story arch that became more and more important even if it wasn't as crazy as in Fringe. I'd say without X-Files there'd be no Fringe.
