I think any of those changes need to be viewed with the question, "Did it make a better movie?"

For example, the troll scene. The troll scene in the book is short, and kind of silly. If it was transcribed word by word into the movie, it would have been a three-minute scene. I think the movie kept the right balance of silly/threatening for the troll scene.
Rivendale? In the book, the dwarves go to Rivendale, relax for a while, and then leave. Is that more interesting than what the movie did?
Not sure what you mean about screwing up personalities and capabilities. In the books, the dwarves other than Thorin have pretty much zero personality, other than Bombur being "the fat one." Capabilities? Surely you don't mean the dwarves, right? In the book, the dwarves pretty much scurry from scene to scene, constantly being captured or threatened.
I can definitely appreciate you talking about filler- I think the movie could have been cut down another half hour without losing anything- but I don't think it's such a massacre of the book as you're making out.

I amuse myself.

I wouldn't call it a rash - more like chafing.

I think two words have killed this movie for me: "orc nemesis"

To be fair, it's an orc nemesis from the books.

There was not an orc nemesis in the books

There actually was in Tolkein's mind, it is just contained in a different book. *NM*

If you haven't seen it, you really can't judge. It's not a big deal

I hated it, but I know I will be in the minority.

Radagast? Bunny Sledge? Archrival Azog? The whole goblin cavern scene? It's a massacre alright. *NM*
