There actually was in Tolkein's mind, it is just contained in a different book. *NM*

There was not an orc nemesis in the books. In the books this happened
1) They stumble onto the the goblins of the misty mountain by taking shelter in a cave. The cave had a false wall and the dwarves were ambushed.
2) The great goblin/goblin king is killed by Gandalf
3) During their escape bilbo falls and finds Gollum
4) They go down the misty mountains, are attacked by wargs, followed by them being attacked by the goblins. The dwarves are rescued by the eagles.
...
Mirkwood, Laketown, and Smaug happen
...
5) Due to the dwarves/Gandalf killing the goblin king and the prospect of riches. Bolg son and heir of Azog (the Orc who started the dwarf/orc wars a 150 years earlier), attacks the combined armies of dwarf, elf, and man. Once the eagles arrive this battle is known as the battle of the five armies.

I wouldn't call it a rash - more like chafing.

To be fair, it's an orc nemesis from the books.

If you haven't seen it, you really can't judge. It's not a big deal

I hated it, but I know I will be in the minority.

I think any of those changes need to be viewed with the question, "Did it make a better movie?"

Radagast? Bunny Sledge? Archrival Azog? The whole goblin cavern scene? It's a massacre alright. *NM*
