Saying that, Riddles in the Dark is one of the great pieces of cinema and the film as a whole was great. More selective editing and allowing WETA to do their thing with prosthetics more often would have made it a 10/10 as I loved all the lore stuff (even if it was fiddled with) but as it is it's a 7.5/10.
When I compare the Lurtz scenes from Fellowship and with the Azog scenes in this film, Fellowship is so much better. There was a particular scene between Thorin and Azog, towards the very end when they exchange a look, and all I could see where soulless CGI eyes and none of the power that Lurtz had in his death scene.
I feel they went crazy with the potential of CGI, because they could, not necessarily because it was best for the film.
*MySmiley* No! Not the gum drop buttons!

I wouldn't call it a rash - more like chafing.

A bit too silly and special effects driven.

I think two words have killed this movie for me: "orc nemesis"

To be fair, it's an orc nemesis from the books.

There was not an orc nemesis in the books

There actually was in Tolkein's mind, it is just contained in a different book. *NM*

If you haven't seen it, you really can't judge. It's not a big deal

I hated it, but I know I will be in the minority.

I think any of those changes need to be viewed with the question, "Did it make a better movie?"

Radagast? Bunny Sledge? Archrival Azog? The whole goblin cavern scene? It's a massacre alright. *NM*
