How it should have been done: First film - The Hobbit. Lots of prostetics, lots of dark, mysterious, ugly and rough art direction, with some dwarfs just being dwarfs, singing not with pretty ***ing tenor voices, but with hoarse detuned shouts, and something like a tenth of the film dedicated to the real action scenes, being 90% dedicated to conversations that could lead the spectator to understand the wider context of their journey... It would be a little more monotonous, but the magic would be much more brilhant in contrast. If you put gliter in everything it turns out just a girly teen movie no better than Twifuckinglight...

Than, and only than, after people enjoyed the story of Bilbo, a story with a conclusive ending, and therefore, wining over some fans that are not in it just because of the books, you would anounce the release of SIX films of Lord of The Rings, respecting the original division of the books: The Society of the ring book one, iden book 2, The Two Towers book three, iden book four, and finaly, The return of the king book five, iden book six. And it would be so very cool if they respected the idea of showing Mery and Pippin`s adventure in the odds (books 1, 3 and 5), and Frodo and Sam`s adventures in the even (2, 4 and 6 althou this is only relevant from the point when they separate in the end of The Society of the ring)

And of course, it would be so much more thriling to encounter elfs in Lord of The rings after understanding that they might not be completely friendly (in The Hobit, you should fear an encouter with elfs!!!!) than watching The Hobbit after acknowleging the possibility of Dwarfs and Elfs being friends (as are Gimly and Legolas). Most of the best feature of LoTR saga, witch is the surprise and the increasing scale of the danger and responsability, and the decreasing sense of hope that slowly consumes the reader is JUST LOST BECAUSE THE FIRST THING YOU SEE IN THE ENTIRE CINEMATOGRAFIC SAGA, THE OPENING SEQUENCE TO THE SOCIETY OF THE RING, IS SAURON HIMSELF! He is suposed to be almost a dark secret. People don`t understand the danger they are in, ant THAT`S THE HOLE SPIRIT OF THE SAGA, AND IT HAS BEEN SLAIN.
