Actually, they might have already screwed up the Thrain thing.

The impression I got from the film is that the Necromancer is a relatively new thing, and Gandalf first hears about him from Radagast/the White Council. Yet, in the books, he was very familiar with the whole affair and expressly tells Thorin that he found Thrain in the dungeons years ago, when he gives him the map. Not only that, Thorin has heard of the Necromancer as well, and asks Gandalf "what were you doing in that place?" with the implication that he has a well-known and unpleasant reputation. I also think they overplayed the corruption of Saruman at this early date.
On the other hand, they set up the influence of the ring on Thror fairly well.

I wouldn't call it a rash - more like chafing.

I think two words have killed this movie for me: "orc nemesis"

To be fair, it's an orc nemesis from the books.

There was not an orc nemesis in the books

There actually was in Tolkein's mind, it is just contained in a different book. *NM*

If you haven't seen it, you really can't judge. It's not a big deal

I hated it, but I know I will be in the minority.

I think any of those changes need to be viewed with the question, "Did it make a better movie?"

Radagast? Bunny Sledge? Archrival Azog? The whole goblin cavern scene? It's a massacre alright. *NM*
