I think there are time when the extended editions do take away from the "big reveal"

For example the arrival of the three at the Battle of Pelennor Fields is out of no where in the theatrical version but is less unexpected in the extended editions. However in the context of having read the books and seen the theatrical version of the film that does not bother me that much and I'd rather have the EE and get to see more of the stuff I loved.

I feel they got the worst of both worlds in The Two Towers though.

Just wondering, what scenes of the Battle of MT didn't you like, and why? *NM*

I preferred the extended cuts of the LotR movies greatly over the trimmed versions

I think the Two towers extended edition is an improvement.

Here's another vote for "haven't ever bothered to watch the non-EE editions after the first time".

The Extended Editions are far superior to the Theatrical Releases. *NM*

The EE of TWO TOWERS is essential, FELLOWSHIP is optional and KING's just kills the movie stone dead
