For example the arrival of the three at the Battle of Pelennor Fields is out of no where in the theatrical version but is less unexpected in the extended editions. However in the context of having read the books and seen the theatrical version of the film that does not bother me that much and I'd rather have the EE and get to see more of the stuff I loved.
