Okay, just finished watching Heroes, and I have to say it was one of my favorite episodes to date. It could be that Hiro was not in it.
Anyways, here's the rundown. We're introduced to a potentially new "hero" right off the bat, Emma. She is a deaf nurse doctor? Not sure which, but it's hinted at that she is overqualified for what she is doing currently:filing reports. She has an evolved form of synethesia, specifically the ability to see sound as colored light (self only). She first thinks she is going crazy until one night at a local park, she "hears" a street cellist play. Her ability has manifested fully now. After seeing the lights emanating from the cello, she got up and played the cello while the player was getting a hot dog. She played it like a professional, just by watching the light emanations. It was a nice scene.
Anyways, back to the core story. Samuel dresses like a salesman and absorbs a jar of ink and heads out to find someone who can replace his dead brother. This is when he confirms he has the ability to manipulate earth; geokinesis.
The person he goes after is Peter. Under the guise of a past rescued victim, he filed a lawsuit against Peter. Just so he can get close to him for an "interview". Starts a chain reaction where other paramedics and health officials start suspecting Peter of causing accidents just so he can be the savior. Sam n Pete talk about their past, and some other emotional stuff, and then Sam drops the lawsuit, shakes Peter's hand and goes off. Not before passing on a tattoo. Afterwards, Sam visits his old home, revealing to us that he was the son of a butler and maid. The mansion owner turns him away, and so he levels the place in retaliation, thereby killing all but 3 ppl who were at the party inside. Samuel is evil. But an evil that is more terrifying because of his seemingly good intentions. It's different from Sylar evil. I like it.
Matt and partner go after a suspected drug dealer, whose name was pulled from the pilot episode. They go in, find the guy (with Sylar's help) and start interrogating him. And then the mind game starts. Even I got pulled in! Sylar uses Matt's own power against him by making him hallucinate certain items in the house, thereby implicating the druglord of child kidnapping/murder. Shit goes down, Matt gets a reality check and uses his power to clean up the mess. Sylar is a proud papa. (and so is the Nightmare Man, wherever he is) psst, I know he's dead.
Claire bear's story doesn't really develop much. Gretchen stalks Claire until she gives in and they become roomies. They seal it by the time honored tradition of cutting up Claire.
Anyways, Peter hears Dazzler (deaf sound to light girl) play the cello in the park and gets drawn to her, along with a number of people. She stops, runs away. But they recognize each other from the hospital. Peter later gets called to the scene of the leveled mansion. The whole house imploded via sinkhole. Samuel lurks nearby as Peter's tattoo activates (a compass on his forearm).
And no Hiro. YATAAAAAAAA. Next week promises another Hiro-free episode so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Okay, on to some of my theories. I think Samuel's ability to control ink stems from his geokinetic ability. Most inks are composed of powdered minerals such as graphite and other things mixed in water.
Methinks Emma's synesthetic ability will make her into Dazzler. She'll probably convert sound to light beams of various forms and intensities, including lazers. PEW PEW
What did YOU think of "Ink"?
