It's typical to keep as low as possible the number of mastered video versions for DVD/BR, or for instance to use the same reels 2,3,4,5 for everyone and just encode reels 1 and 6 on which there are credits (in countries where those are adapted).

You simply got an alternate version of the VFX shot. The more graphic one was OK by the German rating board but very likely not by the standards of one or more European country that got the alternate version in the theatrical release too.

It's not censorship, it's the creators' adapting a release to get the rating they want in each market. It's very common, we don't know how widespread this is because most of the differences are subtle and we don't watch all the versions to compare them. Or didn't, before the internet.
