We see the big picture, from King's Landing to the Wall. We see every battle and its outcome. We know the private lives and inner motivations of each major political player. We're not SUPPOSED to be kept in the dark, except where it makes sense from a storytelling perspective, and I don't think this episode met that criteria. They weren't trying to hide anything for dramatic effect, they were just clumsy in their execution.
Hmm I disagree its like the b5 episode a view from the bottom showing what it would be like for the people in the battle what their perspective on it would be is a good story telling device. To often we forget that perspective to our detriment I think.
