I must have forgotten the part where they described Rue.

However, the Rue thing is flat out ridiculous. The book explicitly states that Rue has dark brown skin, and probably more than once at that. It boggles the mind how someone could be a fan of the books and be surprised that Rue is not white. Really! My mind is boggled. You have to have a brain that actively selects and deletes information that you don't like as you're processing it.
I've only read the book once, and I kept getting interrupted during the part where they introduce and describe most of the tributes (which is why I usually try to read after my wife and kids go to bed). I could have sworn she was described as blonde, so I pictured her as a little white girl through the book. I saw the movie and was a little surprised that Rue was depicted by a black girl, but figured they just wanted a more diverse cast, so I thought nothing of it. It wasn't until after watching the movie that I heard that it was "controversial" and that people were actually offended by the choice.
I was equally unconcerned when they cast Idris Elba as Heimdall in Thor, even though having a black guy in Norse mythology is a lot less likely than having a black girl in Panem. All these complaints are ridiculous.

P.S. The "NSSP" is implied.
Of course, [Quixote] carried it a bit too far. He thought that every windmill was a giant. That's insane. But, thinking that they might be...

YA has become huge in the past 5-10 years, thanks to Harry Potter and others.

YA is a fairly recent invention anyway. (Not that it isn't great! I think it's a great invention!)

I liked it, but at times, I felt like I was a citizen of Panem, watching kids get killed on screen.

Especially since Katniss is described as olive skinned herself.
