People who are saying that it looks empty and plotless don't know that it is built on a a book (an entire series of books), so plenty of material there.
It's the trailer's job to entice viewers on its own merits, not to simply hold up a title card that says "if you'd read the book, you'd know this could be cool". The trailers for this film are just doing a terrible job of building interest. I'm familiar with the books and I still think the trailer is crap. That's not necessarily a reflection on the film, but the trailer is poorly conceived.
I think you'd probably want to see it regardless of a trailer.
John Carter. It's being declared a flop weeks ahead of it's premiere.
