I am so sick of the elitist crap, where the same old boring films win those kinda things, movies you can hardly sit through muss less watch over and over again.
ROTK for the win and hooray for entertainment.
I love RotK. I am not dismissing the entertainment value, but you just dismiss my enjoyment of Casablanca. I LOVE that movie. I could and would watch it over and over, whereas I have a bit of a limit on something the length of RotK. I'm not saying everyone should feel the same as I do, but I don't think you can judge based on "woohoo, that was fun!" and call that the only valid criterion.
Do you think I'm wrong that there is a chance more modern voters have not watched all the older films? Btw, you may dislike it, but this is why I don't vote in your awards - if I don't know anything about 75% of the entries, it makes no sense for me to vote.
I dunno who put together the field of 16 here, but it's hardly a evenly spread competition when it comes to release years. ROTK, Silence of the Lambs and Platoon as the newest entries? Please. Of course the label "of all time" should contain older films too, but primarily? No.
I simply do not subscribe to the POV that the best films of our time are older than the 1960s. That may be personal taste but the constant "back then everything was better, no special effects but real stories"-whining is a huge pet peeve of mine. Films dealing with themes from so many decades ago hardly ever touch me, their way of acting, writing and filming feels dated and wooden to me. Some of my all-time favorites are from the 70s, but none made this list.
Of course that doesn't mean people don't have the right to vote for Casablanca. But no one should be surprised that people pick a more recent film that represents film-making as it is done today, especially combined with a timeless story loved by readers for decades.

I think it's fair to vote if you love one entry enough to wish for it to win *shrugs*
