There is only one Star Trek II, and it was made in 1982. Werthead Send a noteboard - 11/12/2011 07:46:14 PM
I'm hoping they just call this movie 'STAR TREK:' with an appropriate subtitle. Having two 'STAR TREK II's would just be confusing.

I think it would have been bolder for them to have come up with a brand new enemy for the crew to face, and to perhaps have been less tied in with the original series. It seems odd to do a reboot and then immediately start pouring in lots of shout-outs to the original series. Including Spock in the last film made sense to tie the two continuities together, but beyond that it would be more interesting for the new films to blaze their own path rather than just simply redo stories from the old continuity ad nauseum.

I generally liked the 2009 movie, in particular the excellent cast (though Chris Pine's portrayal was more 'brash' than 'confident', as I imagine young Kirk to have been), but it was hugely flawed. There was a lot of dire dialogue, some plot movements made zero sense and Eric Bana was seriously underused as the villain. Also, trying to pretend the Enterprise's engine room looked like a brewery was just hilariously awful. Against that there was some nice one-liners and a few good action beats.

Khan is IN (but Benicio Del Toro is OUT) as Star Trek 2's villain - 06/12/2011 02:58:08 PM 1102 Views

The only thing I liked Del Toro in was "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", so no big loss. - 06/12/2011 06:54:38 PM 471 Views
