Given the books are borderline unreadable, I was not intrigued by the series. Then a few people I know said they dumped the books halfway through Season 1 and went off and did their own thing and it was halfway watchable.
Still wasn't hugely interested until it turned out Cordelia from BUFFY is playing a Mord Sith in Season 2. That's almost sold me.

But the show was never going to even be remotely like the books. That's why they changed the name.
