I admit I haven't read the books. I've watched the first movie and it was not good. I tried watching the second, but I couldn't finish it.
What are the redeeming qualities that make you appreciate this?
What are the redeeming qualities that make you appreciate this?
In the previous movies, I enjoyed the unabashed corniness of it. So, reading the reviews that it would be dark(er) and disturbing, I didn't go in with high expectations. So, redeeming qualities:
- Billy Burke
- bit of humor
- Kristin Stewart is quite convincing, and the 1st half was actually very romantic.
- the 2nd half is involving and visceral; it's absolutely tense and shocking.
The end results is something unique. The romantic part is as PG teenage (or 30-something woman, whatever ) fantasy as it gets. The horror part is terrifying. Two extremes put together back-to-back, and yet very realistic in that is exactly how real life might go. In love and sex, pleasure & happiness is a thin line away from pain & death (or, at least, life-changing events).
The movie is also better executed and put together than the previous 3. When you walk out, you don't say to yourself, "That was a bad movie." (For example, that is what I said after seeing Immortals). It's not a bad movie. It has a very interesting point of view. I will be seeing it again, this time with my boyfriend, although I don't know yet how much that bargain will cost me.
