Yeah, my friend convinced me to watch it (the same friend who recommended The Shield and The Wire to me), so we've been watching it together. It's a fantastic show. The actors are excellent and the tension stays ratcheted up high with every episode, twisting the screw as slowly as it possibly can at times. The camera work and the show's sense of reality and attention to detail really bring it to life. I love the character growth especially. Everything that happens and every way that things get worse can be traced directly back to decisions made by the characters (particularly Walt), and watching how the consequences of those decisions play out, and how the characters are changed and sometimes twisted by those consequences, is a joy.
Entirely agree up to here.
That sounds kind of sadistic. But really, by this point the main character deserves everything that happens, and sometimes I see him as the bad guy who must be defeated. The problem is that the people around him who have been caught up in everything don't deserve it nearly as much, if at all.
Really? I find the amazing thing is how the show still makes me cheer for Walt after all this time and all the crap that went down. I don't want this show to end badly for him (for his family even less so, of course.)
Same goes for Jesse. There are weeks where I want him to die painfully and then there are those where I think he has the ability to turn things around and become a decent person. It's kind of a sick pleasure to be torn between this.
Hell, they even made me care for Gus in the last episode. I hope he kills that fucking asshole with his bell and the wheelchair soon!
It's been announced that next season will be the last, and will have 16 episodes. I love the sound of that, and am happy that the show is getting to wrap up its story on its own terms.
Agreed. I wonder which bang they'll end this season with.

Watching cable shows - should you just wait for the DVDs?

I don't understand the concept of owning shows/movies.

Even if you're only going to watch a show once, it's rather easier that way.

I think there's precedent in the shift of filmed drama to an episodic format.
