it's more like a human who's attacked by a wolf so he goes out and kills every wolf he can, how's he supposed to tell one wolf from another?
How is that supposed to be better? I would condemn a human who went out and killed every wolf he could find because he got attacked by one as well. It is established that the alien can read the minds of the humans it touches. It can damn well tell if the townspeople it is abducting and killing are bad humans or not, if it really wanted to.
if a dog is aggressive because it's been abused do we condemn it for lashing out at any human?
A dog is an animal. I wouldn't condemn it for lashing out. It doesn't know any better. The alien is a person. It is sentient and presumably knows right from wrong. It is more like the hypothetical POW I mentioned before than it is like a dog.
and to me the bad things happen is more along the lines of "yes you've been hurt, but is this making you feel better? bad things happen but all we can do is get on with life and not let it continue hurting us"
I felt it was too weak a comparison to use on someone who has been that greviously harmed and is that pissed off. It would have worked better if someone had actually harmed the kid's mom and he had forgiven them.
