Ehh. This is a different kind of remake, though beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 02/06/2011 04:58:00 PM
I was not a great fan of the original, either. But remakes, especially remakes within just a couple of years, seems deeply silly.

This isn't a "Hey! Let's reimagine this beloved series!" remake. It's a "Hey! Let's make an American version of this beloved series!" remake.

Batman Begins and Casino Royale are good versions of the first type- a fresh look at the source material, without the continuity detritus that's built up over the years. Planet of the Apes, or that Carrie reboot they're talking about, are examples of it done as a quick cash in of a recent nostalgia trend.

This is more like the US version of the Office, or to use a less encouraging analogy, the US version of "Whose Line is it, Anyway?" An adaptation of a foreign property that many Americans wouldn't see, just because foreign language films are generally not widely-viewed

It might be good, it might be terrible, but I don't think the "It just came out a few years ago" complaint applies here.
I amuse myself.
