I know people say after re-reads you can see it but I don't care. I read the book once and didn't notice this and I liked it that way. (Not that there's anything wrong with it).
It's not so blatantly obvious, but it's there and in fact it's kind of important to understand their plotlines and actions. If they weren't gay, you'd be left scratching your head at some of their choices. Being gay makes those choices clear.
Now let's assume they actually are gay. That still doesn't make it okay to be so obvious about it and give them such a big scene. That was handled horribly. A few subtle hints would have worked too, for fuck's sake.
I didn't like the in-your-face style they chose. They could have easily kept it more subtle like the books and still made the point, but I'm not going to worry about it. It was odd, but as long as it's not a running theme (the obviousness of it that is) it's all good. Actually, did Littlefinger ever make such a remark during the tournament in the books, when he referred to the "friend" in losing his wage to Renly? That alone was a bit obvious compared to anything I remember in the books that I recall.
The most obvious bit in the books is the line "I'll shove my sword up somewhere even Renly couldn't reach" but there are a LOT of clues tbh, like Cersei's jibes about Loras, her comments on whether Margaery shared his sexual habits, the closeness of Renly and Loras, the difficulty in getting Loras a wedding match ring doubly so, and the fact that he isn't inconvenienced by swearing KG oaths. Renly's cook being used to keeping secrets, the list is pretty extensive and as soon as it's pointed out it's obvious. The funniest one was Loras' line -- we were...(awkward pause).. Praying together. We often prayed together.
I wonder which of them did it on their knees though...
And the answer came to her instantly: pride. Oh, you hear them say it's a sin; you hear them say it goes before a fall. the shepherd prides himself on keeping the wolf out from the flock. We pride ourselves on making a good history of our lives, a good story to be told.
