Maybe we should have a survey of little known gems in general!
Yes, definitely a good idea
I've seen Equilibrium, which was good. I haven't even heard of Cypher
'Cypher' also goes by the name 'Brainstorm'. Basically for 'hidden gems', you're looking for low-budget flicks that didn't get the marketing they needed and were released at the wrong time, so they often bombed at the box-office and aren't well known, even though some are actually pretty good movies! Here's the short-list of my favourite 'hidden gems':
'Cypher'/'Brainstorm' (2002): Great cyber-punk spy thriller with a nice twisted take on personal identity.
'eXistenZ' (1999): Really bizarre David Cronenberg flick about virtual reality. Possibly the strangest film I've ever seen, but very memorable.
I've seen it years ago. I wasn't entirely sure what to think of it, but still remember lots of scenes from it, that can be taken as a compliment.
'Primer' (2004): Extremely clever and twisted modern take on time-travel.
Heard good things about this one.
'A Scanner Darkly' (2006): Highly innovative combination of digital film and animation based on the Philip K Dick novel about drugs.
Watched this last year, liked it
