With the images we got of the "White Walkers" they didn't exactly look like they were white skinned at all. Of course, a lot of that was from the way they were lit, but still. And it looked rather bulky and muscular, instead of lithe. I always described the Others to people as "evil snow and ice elves" like the Norns in Tad Williams' "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn" trilogy (a supposed influence on Martin writing these books). These didn't seem to match my mental image at all.

Although the one Walker's sword did match with the book, it looked made of ice. Just wish it's armor looked like that too.

I always picture the Wights (or others or white walkers or whatever) as being white, like the snow and ice around them. Not black with only blue glowing eyes. I know they affect/infect other people and they come back from the dead but the original ones, aren't they white?

Me too, these Others felt like some sort of primitive Predator with the bulkiness and chase scene.
